GSA454_cover A special volume from GSA ( Geological Society of U.S.A. ) entitled Earth Science in the Urban Ocean is now available. This is a 480-page book with six thematic subdivisions and a totality of 26 documents. The urban ocean ' of involvement is the coastal and seaward countries of southern California. This special volume resumes a research treated the USGS and confederates over the past twosome of decennaries.

    2. Source-to-Sink Alluviation
    3. Southern CA Physical Oceanology and Deposit Conveyance
    4. Regional Tectonic Construction: Quake and Tsunami Hazards
    5. Coastal Aquifers of Southern CA

I am a coauthor on a paper in Subdivision 2 entitled Undersea canon and fan systems of the Calif. Continental March This is a nice reappraisal paper of the several deep-marine sedimentary systems therein country and their ( geologically ) recent history. My share is some work I maked on the Holocene history of the Hueneme pigboat fan system in Santa Monica Basin for my thesis ( the points of which are presently in insistence and should be out afterward this summertime ).

I am really excited to see this publication come out. I believe it will be a great resource for those interested therein specific part too as those interested in the intersection of geoscience and human action generally. I too believe it is a nice instance of how to box multi-/inter-disciplinary geoscience research that is, there is a general topic that binds the documents together but they are too utile as stand-alone documents.

Here is component of the description of the book from the GSA bookstore website

The Southern CA Continental March and the related Western Transverse Ranges represent one of the most typical environments on the west seashore of North U.S.. During the past 20 ages, the U.S. Geological Study, along with many Southern CA scientific mates, holds dealt extended research on geological and oceanographic procedures in the urban ocean off Southern California. The overall end of this research holds been to search the impact that action of the Marchland wear human population, and the other way around.
